You would think after recent years we would look for a busy staycation with lots of people… but no, we wanted to escape it all again for a short period and enjoy just being a family together. Well, we found the most perfect place…

Horse Park Hideaway was such a find – I was recommended the cabins by Jenny, Girl About Cheshire on Instagram and booked the last available slots for the year, and I’m so glad we did – we’ll definitely be back here.
We headed to the little village called Pilling… it’s in the middle of nowhere, thirty minutes from Blackpool, twenty minutes from Lancaster.
Connie Cabin

Connie Cabin is one of two cabins available to hire at HPH. You arrive and you’re immediately greeted by THE VIEW… the pictures do not do it justice. I could have stared out onto the farmers field with the Forest of Bowland hills in the background, all day long. It’s so quiet and peaceful… we did not see one soul throughout our whole stay.

The outdoor area was definitely a highlight. The hot tub is bubbling and ready for you to jump in, the cinema screen is crying out to be used, logs are waiting on the fire pit… absolute bliss. And the kids loved it too… there were outdoor games under a seat, which occupied Sophia for hours. All this and with that view, perfection.

Inside was quite amazing – a miniature, cosy cabin, with an industrial feel but I could see that Caroline and Josh (the owners) had thought about every little detail. It’s small, but it didn’t feel like it. Everything had its place, and that was perfect. One double bed, a bunk bed and an optional sofa bed you will find in Connie, along with a cool kitchen, dining area, bathroom. It’s full of technology such as the iPad on the wall which controls the cinema screen outside, TV with all the streaming services on… even a fancy light wall to set the mood. I also was impressed with the children’s toys available… we did not open our toy case at all! There was even a jar of sensory toys for Caleb, our 3 month old. The windows looking out were huge… one night we slept with the blinds open to see the stars at night and sunrise in the morning, the kids are usually up before sunrise anyway ha!
What to do

If you manage to drag yourself away from this gorgeous self catering retreat, locally, there’s a Fish and Chip shop, Thai restaurant, local shop and a pub. There’s also a few walks and nature trails you can do. We decided to head into Blackpool one day and Lancaster the next, however if we went again, we would probably visit the places Caroline suggested for the kids – Billy Bobs and a large cinema complex in Preston.

We made the most of the Cabin however – one night pizza and movie night in the hot tub, one night fish and chips from the local and making s’mores around the campfire. When the kids were in bed, we would hop back in the hot tub and catch up on a series…. What more could you want.

If you’re looking for quality time with the family, then this is the place for you. Suited for couples, young families – even a group of you if you manage to hire both cabins (fern has a cinema teepee!!) Check out HPH online as they also do gift vouchers and packages to make your stay even more special (we bought the cinema and fire pit packages in addition to our stay).
If you have any questions about our stay, do let me know and I’d love to help you. I’m just SO GLAD we’ve found HPH… I know we’ll be back!
